Controls Assessment

The purpose of the data governance is to implement controlled data environment, it always has been this way. In fact, this is the purpose of any governance function, be it technology governance, program governance, etc., the purpose is to design, implement and execute a control structure. Having said that, increasing data volume will require enhancement of current controls. You may also argue that the controls could be implemented as -

1. Data definition controls (covered by metadata governance)

2. Data organization controls (covered by data architecture governance)

3. Data input and sourcing controls (controls at the point of sourcing or input, data sourcing contracts)

4. Data movement controls (controls to move the data through organization and sharing)

5. Data consumption controls (controls at the point of consumption including fine grained access control, entitlements, fitness for use, etc.)
